Our Cosmic Adventure
By Tracy | March 15, 2008
The kids and I went to Cosmic Adventure today. We met up with my friend Julie, her wee ones (Chase, Chloe and Alex) and her husband Joe, Julie’s sister Tina, her wee ones (Kelsey, Sara and Emily may) and her husband ??? (Crap . . . I’m drawing a blank. Sorry Tina!) It was quite a group anyway. Allain didn’t come because it was suppose to be just the girls, and I didn’t know the hubbies had tagged along last minute.
The kids had a great time. We were there about an hour early (us bus takers have to go-with-the-flow), so it was quite a challenge having both kids by myself. Maya would be crawling off one way, Wyatt would be running off the other way. Not a stress free outing to say the least! We played in the baby area for a while, but Wyatt got bored of that and wanted to go in the ‘big’ area.
He’s a pretty ruff and tumble little boy, so I wasn’t worries about him getting hurt, but there was no way I could follow him while carrying Maya. We went to an area that was kinda separate from the whole big play structure and I let Wyatt go through there himself. He had a great time. He’d go up the stairs and around to the different slides and ramps and things.
It was quite nerveracking when he’d get to a tunnel and crawl through because I would loose my line of sight to him for a bit. He could go 2 different ways in the tunnel and I’d stand there scanning both ends of the tunnel waiting for him to pop out one. He loved the solo adventure, I didn’t.
I know it’s all very safe and he can’t really get hurt, he can’t leave the building, and they do have staff there just for running up into the structure to get your kid back for you, but in those moments when I couldn’t see him and he was taking a while to emerge from a tunnel, my heart would sink. It must be that I-lost-my- kid-in-the-mall feeling. It was terrible! He of course would pop out another end of the tunnel and continue on his way, but man was that stressful.
After as much independent adventuring as my heart could take, we returned to the kiddie section with the promise that he could go back in the big area with Chase when they got there. Chase is about 10 and loves kids and is a very responsible little guy. He’s used to watching out for his little sis, so he was excited to go with Wyatt through the structure.
The gang got there while we were having a snack in the eating area, so after we finished up we set off for more fun. Chase agreed to go with Wyatt through the ‘big’ area. Wyatt doesn’t really follow instructions well from people he’s not used to, so Chase was just going to follow him around the ‘big’ area to make sure he was ok and so we knew where he was. Wyatt loved it!
I looked around after a while to see if I could see them in the huge structure, and sure enough they were on the top level going full speed. Wyatt was playing with Chase and having a great time. Maya and Alex got to play together in the baby area, which was great. Alex is 1 month older than Maya but we don’t get together all that often, so it was nice have them play together. (It was nice to hang out with Julie too!)
We were there for another 2 or so hours, then both Wyatt and Maya were getting pretty tired. They were both way passed nap time, so we called it a day. They were both asleep as soon as the bus started moving, lol! All in all, a wonderful day!
I definitely learned I’m not ready for him to be too much of a ‘big boy’ yet. He can stay a baby a while longer!
