Our First Trip to a Museum

We decided to go to the Science and Tech Museum on Sunday. We knew it would be a trek (buses running on Sunday schedules) but we knew Wyatt would really love the train exhibit. So after about an hour and 3 buses we were there. Wyatt and Maya both snoozed for some of the trip. So they were raring to go when we got there.

Our first stop, of course, was the trains. We walked down a few halls on our way, and Wyatt liked the canoes and the phones beside exhibits that would tell you about the display. When we came around the next corner, with Wyatt leading the way, we saw the trains. Or I should say Wyatt saw the trains and started to run and shake with excitement.

“BIG CHOO-CHOO, BIG CHOO-CHOO” he exclaimed as he ran. The trains were crazy big. The wheels alone were taller than Allain. We walked around them, then noticed some steps to go up into them. Wyatt almost took the steps two at a time!

Inside he got to look in window to where the coal was fired and he got to sit in the ‘drivers seat’ and pull and push levers. We checked out the other trains peeked in some windows of ones we couldn’t enter. Wyatt really enjoyed it. There was a station where kids could make a conductors hat to wear, but Wyatt wasn’t interested in leaving the big trains to go to the table.

After quite a long stay at the trains we headed of to the space exhibit. Wyatt like it but he’d keep saying “Go see Choo-choo!”. After a while and a promise to go back before we left, he eventually stopped asking to go back to the trains.

He really like the old cars and even got to sit in one. He was more interested in the snowmobile ride though, and even stood in line for 3 other kids to have their turn first. When it was his turn he climbed up on the snowmobile and I pushed the button to start the ride. There was a big screen in front showing a winter snow scene speeding by as you drove the snowmobile down the hill. Wyatt really liked it. He always has a straight face when he’s on rides like that. Your not really sure if he likes it or not, but when he gets off he’s always excited. I think he just takes it all in and watches what’s going on. I think he’s definitely his father’s son!

Allain was excited to take Wyatt in the Crazy Kitchen. They walked through all topsy-turvy and Wyatt fell down when he stepped back on level ground. Then he just got up and kept going to the next thing. I think Allain was disappointed. Maybe next year he’ll find the crazy kitchen fun.

After some more exploring Wyatt started to get tired, so we put him in the stroller and I put Maya in the sling. After about 10 or 15 min more of walking around Wyatt was asleep. Allain and I went and had lunch then walked around a little more. When Wyatt woke up he was very clingy and warm. He definitely wasn’t feeling good. He didn’t want anything to eat and just wanted to be held. So we decided it was time to go.

We got Wyatt a magnetic train book, which he just loves. His first souvenir!

We put Maya back in the stroller and got Wyatt all snuggled on Allain’s chest in the sling. Wyatt fell asleep on Daddy for a lot of the trip home. He’s still a little warm off and on, and he’s definitely not feeling like himself. I think I’m gonna take him to the clinic when they get up from their naps this afternoon.

When that’s our first museum adventure! It was a lot of fun. I’m glad Wyatt enjoyed the trains so much.
