Life with Only One Child

By Tracy | June 13, 2008

I’ve gotten so much done over that last few days. It’s just me and Maya at home. Wyatt’s still at Grandma’s and is having a great time. Really . . . I’m not sad that he’s not missing me! **sniff**

I’ve gotten some sewing done for the baby shower I’m going to this weekend. I made a cute little sling (and one for me too!) and a little fleece blanket with the baby’s name on it. (Turned out great!) My sick baby Maya is modeling the sling.

I even got lots of cleaning and laundry done. Yay me! I had a rainbow of diapers hanging in the back yard. I thought it looked kind of nice. (Not sure what’s weirder, thinking hanging diapers looked cute or taking a picture of them!)

Pass the Cold

By Tracy | June 12, 2008

Wyatt’s had a little cold for the last week. Runny nose and a bad cough mostly. But now that he’s feeling better, miss Maya is starting to feel bad. Wyatt’s been over at Grandma’s house for the last few days to give Maya and I a chance to rest and recoup. (I’m not sick, but having sick kids sure takes a lot out of ya!)

Maya has gone back to 2 naps a day again, since she’s not feeling well and only wants to breastfeed, no food! (Another reason breastfeeding after 1yr is so great!) This is my sick baby getting her rest!

Maya 1 Year Dr Appointment

By Tracy | June 10, 2008

Maya had her 1 year check up today and everything was great. She weighed in at 21.5 lbs (right on her growth curve), so yay for breastmilk!  She was of course the picture of health . . . chubby baby fat rolls and all!

Our doctor had some residents working with him so they came in first to do the checkup, then he came in after to make sure they did it ok! (he’s really great!) Of course I got diet questions from the residents, but that’s ok. Hopefully they learned a little about alternative lifestyles and how doctors can support them (My doc is a great supporter of our health choices).

It kind of made me laugh though, when the resident said “So, she’s on Whole Milk now?!” (sort of in a half question kind of way) and I said “Well . . . Whole Breastmilk I guess!!”. But it was annoying when he started asking if she was getting enough calcium and stuff! I mean come on . . . If I were giving her Cow’s  breastmilk it would be fine, but Human breastmilk and . . .  well that might be lacking! Are you sure she’s getting this and this and this!?! Give me a break! I really wish some doctors were bigger breastfeeding advocates, and not just for newborns but toddlers too!

When our doctor came in though he was  great. He asked what foods she’s started, what my diet was like now, and then said “Sounds good, and she looks great! Well done!!!” He always gives me a boost in confidence!

The bad part at the end of course though . . . Maya got her 1 year vaccinations. She was such a trouper. She had 2 needles and gave a good cry, but Mommy’s milk made it all better! She even got a victory badge! maya-needles-1.jpg

A Morning At the Park

By Tracy | June 7, 2008

Allain and I took the kids to the water sprinkler park this morning. It was our first time there this summer, and we had a great time. Wyatt loved running through the water and, of course, ran to play in the sand as soon as he was soaked! Boys and mud . . . go figure!

Maya really liked splashing in the water on the ground, but wasn’t a fan of the sprinklers. I think the water was still a little to cold for her likings! She looked so adorable in the little swimsuit Edith gave her, and was really strutting her stuff. To cute!

Sick Little Boy

By Tracy | June 4, 2008

wyatt-sick-1.jpgMy little guy wasn’t feeling well today. He was tired and cuddly, which always signals a cold. I put his pillow and blanket on the couch after Maya went down for her morning nap and Wyatt said “No . . .  My no go do-do!”, in a very quiet and sad voice!

I explained that he didn’t have to go to sleep but that he might like to cuddle up in the blanket and watch some Thomas or Diego on the couch.  Not even ten minutes late I heard snoring coming from the couch!!! He was so cute. Sad but Cute!
